Best upgrade I've made to our 5th wheel.
Reese Goosebox is the way.
Locking handle provides peace of mind
the locking handle is peace of mind in its self.
Reese Goosebox is mentioned as a reliable option
I don’t think you can go wrong with the Companion.
Hitch fits perfectly with Ford F-350 prep system
It’s perfect and well worth the money.
Easy to install and remove with puck system
The puck system is great, easy in and out in case you need the full bed.
High weight ratings ensure safety
B&W is a great brand with high weight ratings.
Reese Goosebox is a reliable option
I was thinking about Reese Goosebox.
the ride quality is amazing over a standard king pin.
Adjustable ride with built-in airbag
I do like being able to adjust the ride with the built in air bag.
Reese Gooseneck does not void frame warranty
The Reese gooseneck adapter and box are one of the very few goosenecks that will not void their frame warranty per their own rep who stated that to me in email.
Reese Goosebox has high weight ratings
The Goosebox works for all but the biggest of fifth wheels.
Users report improved towing experience with Goosebox
Everyone swears they get 1-2 MPGs better and no chucking, after the 1k mile break in.
Owners love the Reese Goosebox for its performance and reliability
Absolutely love it. I switched for better articulation since we boondock, and security of trailer not coming off the hitch.
After towing with the reese I would be hard pressed to go back to a standard 5th wheel hitch.
No problem with overshooting the hitch
Overshooting the hitch has never been a problem.
Reese Goosebox is a recommended option for towing
I want to keep as much bed space in my shortbox 17 ram as possible.
Reese towing also makes a very nice one.

Warranty issues with adapters and pin boxes

Reese hitch difficult to install and remove
that hitch was a pita to get into and out of the truck.
Payload capacity concerns with heavy loads
My uncle told me very sheepishly that I had made an extremely expensive mistake.
Towing capacity usually doesn't mean much as the payload will always be exceeded before pulling power.
OP needs a 1 ton truck or a smaller trailer.
A 2500 is not the right tool for a big 5th wheel or a bed camper.
Suspension issues when towing heavy trailers
the suspension caused too much sway when I got in a crosswind and nearly turned me sideways at only 60.
any gust of wind or large bump going down the strait road and that trailer will tell you who's boss and push your truck around.
Gooseneck adapters can cause frame damage
Do not use a gooseneck adapter. I’ve seen cracked sidewalls and cracked frames from people using gooseneck adapters.
Concerns about Goosebox voiding frame warranty
Eh, looks overly complicated and also like it’s designed for horizontal forces (ie stop and go) whereas other options absorb vertical sudden loads.
Goosebox may not be suitable for all fifth wheels
The problem with goose box is its owned by Lippert and does not have the tow or pin weight to replace most pin boxes.
Concerns about warranty voiding when switching to gooseneck
Verify warrantee on your 5th wheel. Not an expert, but I think changing to gooseneck may void it.
Thank you for mentioning it. We are waiting for the official answer but from what I’ve read, Lippert (Grand Design), will allow it if it has dampening built-in like the airbag on the Reese.
Preference for traditional hitches due to ease of use
It's easier to hitch up and there's no chance of overshooting the hitch with it.
Concerns about difficulty in installation and removal
the Andersen 5th wheel hitch which secures to a gooseneck ball/pucks in the bed (or rails) and is extremely light and easy to remove when you aren’t towing.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Anderson Ultimate hitch is easy to remove
biggest plus is it’s super easy to remove when you need the bed back.
Discussion on connection types for fifth wheel hitches
Which connection type is best for a fifth wheel hitch?
I absolutely love my anderson ultimate and it comes in both goose and puck i belive.
I can pull the ball out of my truck bed in 20 seconds with one hand and store it in my truck under the back seat.
Well do you need a slider or offset?
Discussion on towing capacity vs payload
If you do you are going to want to also double check with the manufacturer of the kit to see what their load ratings are.
Not even close to true.
Ain't nowhere close to 4k.
Discussion on hitch brands and preferences
That is why a lot of people insist on 'factory this, factory that'.
Discussion on ergonomic design and leverage effects
RV build quality is barely serviceable at best. And for those that are full timers maintenance is an ongoing task.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on switching between gooseneck and fifth wheel setups
Might be easier to go back and forth from towing config to non towing config with the gooseneck setup.
Discussion on switching from fifth wheel to gooseneck
I am really wanting to change things out to a Reese Gooseneck and free up the bed of my truck.
Discussions on switching between gooseneck and fifth wheel setups
Haha, came looking for hitch answers and now you bought a fridge.
You missed out on the fridge, we move almost weekly and have not had a complaint yet from the residential refrigerator.
Discussion on using gooseneck vs fifth wheel hitches
Anderson Hitch worked great for me, easy install and setup.
Works great but is sometimes a pain in the ass to get hooked up.
Tows great.

Discussion on selling fifth wheel hitches
I'm looking for suggestions (other than Facebook) on where to list it. I'm at a loss and just don't want to store it forever.
They may even be interested in taking it off your hands if the price is right.
I guess you could try the places that sell 5th wheels.
Discussion comparing different hitch brands
There is a lot of review on both. The light weight of the Curt is appealing.
Their the best hitches on the market.
Trailer Saver hitch.
Best ride I’ve ever had towing.
Preference for B&W Companion hitch over others
The best fixed fifth wheel hitch on the market is the B&W.
Preference for B&W Companion hitch due to ease of use
Do yourself a favor and just spend the money on the B&W Companion.
Discussion around choosing between different hitch brands
Any recommendations or ones to stay away from?
Anderson is popular and very cost friendly if you have a roll over ball.
Discussion on ordering custom vehicles
Any advice on ordering custom vehicle? Known delays? Things to watch out for?
I think I’d get a 350 for the extra payload capacity.
I got my custom ordered ‘25 f350 in January at an awesome price.
I’d spend the extra $1,500 and get an F-350 SRW.
Concerns about high costs of hitch and installation
the almost 1k difference of just getting some convenience seems a bit steep.
Discussion about alternative hitch brands like Anderson and B&W Companion
They work in short beds and I think they’re much better than standard fifth wheel hitches.
It is SO easy to use.
I’ve never had a slider and it’s never been a problem.
it is safe to have the ability to slide if I needed to.
Fitment and installation confusion
I was shopping for a B&M companion but realized this isn’t oem puck dimensions.
Go with B&W. You shouldn’t have much to worry about.
PITA I’ve ordered hundreds of car/truck parts but the RV world is a different game.
Installation time and complexity
It’s a several hour deal, but pretty straight forward.
General interest in various hitch options
The Reese Goose has been amazing. Overall needs very little maintenance and is of very good build quality.
I’ve heard really really good things from everyone who uses the GenyHitch.
This is awesome! Definitely an option I would consider.
Additional considerations for towing setups
Awesome, glad to hear some feedback firsthand from an owner!
Discussion on towing a 5th wheel with a half-ton truck
You can pull a 5th wheel with a 1500? I always assumed you had to have 3/4 ton to haul one.
That being said, we do have a 3/4 ton truck on order just so we’ve got that extra cushion and peace of mind.
Smooth as silk.
And shortbed? Have fun with those crosswinds. Yikes!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on the benefits of kingpin vs gooseneck hitches
Everywhere I read on the internet, the claim is made that 5th wheel hitches provide a "smoother" ride and more "stability".
By comparison, a 5th wheel allows rotation on the z-axis around the kingpin.
FWIW, I have a Reese Goosebox and the ride is far better than my old fixed fifth wheel hitch.
So all the noise that would be transmitted from the trailer to the tow vehicle gets filtered and THAT is non-trivial.
Discussion on the pros and cons of adapters for gooseneck hitches
I’m fully prepared to just get a Fifth wheel hitch installed if I need to but if this is an equally viable option…..no rudeness please, learning as I go.
No matter what size I would swap out to a goose box or the like before using an adapter.
It seems to work fine.
Discussion on the benefits of B&W Companion hitch
I say 'safety first!' (which is coincidentally how we ended up trading in our Ram 1500 for a F-350. I guess wives ARE expensive).
With rails in the bed all the time, they become a nuisance very fast if you use the truck for anything else like hauling rocks, dirt, wood, etc.
Concerns about handling while towing
The crazy part is that it feels totally fine driving it around town, I have no concern whatsoever.
5ers are generally have a higher king pin weight ratio than a bumper pull.
Concerns about towing configurations with different setups
The gooseneck hitches that are a problem are the type had had zero give and over stressed the frames in the past.
Preference for Anderson Ultimate hitch due to ease of use
I have used the Anderson ultimate 5th wheel connection and it is all you need!
