What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great weight ratings and capacity
Make sure its rated for your 5th wheel. Our 5th wheel has a 24k pin box, so the 5th wheel hitch is rated more than 24k.
My uncle told me very sheepishly that I had made an extremely expensive mistake.
Towing capacity usually doesn't mean much as the payload will always be exceeded before pulling power.
Easy in and out mounting system
The puck system is great, easy in and out in case you need the full bed.
Perfect fit for specific truck models
It’s perfect and well worth the money.
Easy to switch between towing and non-towing configurations
The downside is you need a to be a little more aligned to hitch.
Excellent articulation for towing
Absolutely love it. I switched for better articulation since we boondock, and security of trailer not coming off the hitch as I have seen done to many times.
After towing with the reese I would be hard pressed to go back to a standard 5th wheel hitch.
User-friendly mounting and operation
Absolutely no regrets having an 8lb ball instead of a 200lb hitch.
Easy to remove from the truck bed
if you need to remove it it can be done to use the whole bed.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Difficult to get in and out of the truck
Do yourself a favor and just spend the money on the B&W Companion.
High cost for hitch and installation
the almost 1k difference of just getting some convenience seems a bit steep.
Gooseneck adapters can cause frame damage
Do not use a gooseneck adapter. I’ve seen cracked sidewalls and cracked frames from people using gooseneck adapters.
Some gooseneck hitches can stress truck frames
The gooseneck hitches that are a problem are the type had had zero give and over stressed the frames in the past.
Concerns about warranty when switching to gooseneck
Verify warrantee on your 5th wheel. Not an expert, but I think changing to gooseneck may void it.
We are waiting for the official answer but from what I’ve read, Lippert (Grand Design), will allow it if it has dampening built-in like the airbag on the Reese.
Heavy hitch can use up payload capacity
But I use an Andersen hitch. My main reason for that is to not use up 100+lbs of my payload on a hitch.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on connection types for fifth wheel hitches
Which connection type is best for a fifth wheel hitch?
I absolutely love my anderson ultimate and it comes in both goose and puck i belive.
I can pull the ball out of my truck bed in 20 seconds with one hand and store it in my truck under the back seat.
Well do you need a slider or offset?
Discussion on hitch preferences
They work in short beds and I think they’re much better than standard fifth wheel hitches.
It is SO easy to use.
I’ve never had a slider and it’s never been a problem.
it is safe to have the ability to slide if I needed to.
Discussion on the advantages of using gooseneck vs. fifth wheel hitches
Should I convert the truck to 5th wheel or the RV to gooseneck?

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on using gooseneck vs fifth wheel for bed space
I want to keep as much bed space in my shortbox 17 ram as possible.
the Andersen gives a bit of rearward offset when set up to do so.
Anderson Hitch worked great for me, easy install and setup.
Works great but is sometimes a pain in the ass to get hooked up.

Discussion on alternatives to Fifth Wheel Hitches
Anyone used these before? Good experiences, bad, or otherwise?
I love mine! And it’s validated by Lippert.
It seems to work fine.
They really are hard on frames and no manufacturer warranties them.
Discussion on hitch comparisons and preferences
There is a lot of review on both. The light weight of the Curt is appealing.
Their the best hitches on the market.
the locking handle is peace of mind in its self.
Trailer Saver hitch.
Discussion on compatibility with different truck brands
The mounting system is truck specific if you have the fifth wheel prep/pucks.
As someone who installs hitches daily, don't go cheap on them.
Recommendations for alternative hitches
Any recommendations or ones to stay away from?
I will tell everyone that hitch was a pita to get into and out of the truck.
biggest plus is it’s super easy to remove when you need the bed back.
Anderson is popular and very cost friendly if you have a roll over ball.
Discussion on cheaper hitch options
I see much cheaper ones like a Curt 16k Home Depot has online for less then 300, but we were in a rush because of a incoming hurricane when we bought ours.
Discussion on popular hitch alternatives
I say “safety first!” (which is coincidentally how we ended up trading in our Ram 1500 for a F-350. I guess wives ARE expensive).
With rails in the bed all the time, they become a nuisance very fast if you use the truck for anything else like hauling rocks, dirt, wood, etc.
Discussion on payload capacity of F-250 vs F-350 for towing fifth wheels
I got my custom ordered ‘25 f350 in January at an awesome price.
I’d spend the extra $1,500 and get an F-350 SRW.
Advice on ordering custom vehicles and dealer selection
Any advice on ordering custom vehicle? Known delays? Things to watch out for?
I think I’d get a 350 for the extra payload capacity.
Concerns about fitment and installation complexities with fifth wheel hitches
So now idk if I need rails or if I can find a model that drops right into it or what any advice is appreciated.
Go with B&W. You shouldn’t have much to worry about.
PITA I’ve ordered hundreds of car/truck parts but the RV world is a different game.
Discussion about the difference in fitment between OEM and non-OEM hitches
That is why a lot of people insist on "factory this, factory that".
It’s a several hour deal, but pretty straight forward.
Mention of specific products like B&W Companion and Gen-Y Executive
I was thinking about Reese Goosebox.
Discussion on towing capacities and vehicle compatibility
Using a Reese sidewinder on RAM short bed (more info in comments)
You can pull a 5th wheel with a 1500? I always assumed you had to have 3/4 ton to haul one.
It *can* be done if you have a lightweight 5er, you don’t overload it, and the right half ton truck.
Smooth as silk.
Discussion about the need for adapters with older hitches
If your truck has a Puck system, your best bet would be to buy a hitch that uses the pucks vs trying to adapt an old hitch.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on ride quality differences between gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches.
Comparatively, 5th wheel hitches generally offer smoother, quieter, more stable towing.
By comparison, a 5th wheel allows rotation on the z-axis around the kingpin.
FWIW, I have a Reese Goosebox and the ride is far better than my old fixed fifth wheel hitch.
So all the noise that would be transmitted from the trailer to the tow vehicle gets filtered and THAT is non-trivial.
Concerns regarding gooseneck adapters and safety
Not sketch at all and the only gooseneck hitch supported by the frame manufacturer lippert.
Its cleared by LCI, but they still will not warranty it.
Discussion on personal experiences with gooseneck vs. fifth wheel hitches
I am really wanting to change things out to a Reese Gooseneck and free up the bed of my truck.
I do like being able to adjust the ride with the built in air bag.
The Gooseneck Mount base weighs less than 40 lbs and tows up to 24,000 lbs GTWR.
The Reese gooseneck adapter and box are one of the very few goosenecks that will not void their frame warranty.
Discussion about the complexities of the Shocker QuickAir hitch
The Reese Goose has been amazing. Overall needs very little maintenance and is of very good build quality.
Eh, looks overly complicated and also like it’s designed for horizontal forces.
Your second option, and the one we went with, is Gen-Y. I think its a much better unit, no airbag.
The Goosebox works for all but the biggest of fifth wheels.
Discussion on switching from fifth wheel to gooseneck
We do not have a 5th wheel hitch and it looks like it would be roughly the same cost to buy a 5th wheel hitch.
The B&W is a great hitch and is one of my top favorites.
Preference for Andersen hitch over others
Andersen hitch all the way.
I find the Anderson to be the easiest and most versatile of my experiences.
